News From Fox Ridge

Update June 2005

Hello Everyone,

Thank you all for the great traffic we have had on our web site the last 6 months!  The site itself is pretty static but we are trying to keep the BLOG up to date with happenings in our family.

We now have travel approval and a consulate appointment!!

We cannot wait to go!  Every day that goes by is one more day without our new daughter and sometimes it is frustrating.  Plus we love going back to China and this time the chance to go to Shanghai is really great.  They say you could put about 6 New Yorks into Shanghai and still have room left over!  If that is true then we have our work cut out for us to see the city.  To help us do just that we have chosen to stay in an apartment this time instead of a hotel.  We will be staying near the Bund which is the European section of Shanghai.  There are many shops and restaurants nearby and we will be able to walk to many places.  We will be in Shanghai for one week after we get Fae to complete the Chinese paperwork and then it is off to Guangzhou once again and a week long stay at the famous White Swan Hotel.  Then we fly home and try to recover:)

And folks, let me tell you...this time I will be taking some time off work to recover from jet lag.  For those of you who don't know the story, the last trip to China had a rough ending for Trent.  After we returned both Trent and Debbie went back to work.  Debbie took Hanna to work with her and I worked at home.  One morning not long after our return I went out to the Suburban to take Neilson to school.  I was suffering big time from jet lag and was a real space cadet that morning.  Anyway, we got in the SUV and I started to back out......with the garage door still down!!!!

Yes, I hit the door and bent it so bad that it could not go up on its rails.  As soon as I heard the crash I threw open the door and started to get out to survey the damage.  But I had not put the car into Park.  I put it into Drive and as soon as I took my foot off the brake and started to get out the car lauched itself forward....right toward our big upright freezer!!!

That's right folks, I crushed in the freezer with the front of a Chevy Suburban.  By this time I was in shock.  I put the car in Park and looked over at Neilson.  He was white as a ghost.  He managed to stammer, "UHHHH, I don't want you to take me to school....I want to get out."  So I told him to chill out....we already had our 2 accidents and we hadn't even left the garage!!

So I got out of the car and managed to raise the garage door by hand just enough to get the car out and drive a very nervous Neilson to school.  Then I spent the rest of the the morning fixing the garage door.  I had to take the freezer door off to repair it and even today it looks like someone punched it in the stomach.  But the garage door works again and we have frozen food so all's well that ends well.

We will keep all our friends and family up to date on our new Web Log that is linked at the top of this main page.  Just click on the text link and you can follow our new journey as we make our way to China once more to pick up our new daughter.
